Why Hire Movers for a Local Move

Moving is a lot of work….a LOT of work, and if you are doing it all yourself, it can be overwhelming. During two of our moves, we took the “do-it-yourself” approach, and we couldn’t have done it without help. Sure, in a few cases, you can have some friends help you load and unload (and we did in one move), but there are other cases where you don’t know anyone to call for help.

So what’s the solution? We hired the help. Many people don’t know that you can hire movers for just a few hours. All you are doing is hiring the labor, not their truck. And this was a lifesaver. Here’s why:

  • They work within your time frame: Unlike other movers who are squeezing you into their driving and delivery schedule, movers you hire for just a few hours are more flexible. When you hire them, you can specify the time you’d like them to arrive. Just make sure you are ready for them at the time you schedule them because additional time is additional money.
  • No heavy lifting: This was the best benefit. I didn’t lift a thing, and I supervised the whole time. Sorry, but this girl is NOT strong enough to help carry a very heavy couch down stairs.
  • They disassembled and reassembled: We had several pieces of furniture that wouldn’t fit in the truck as is. The hired movers were able to take the pieces apart, and then put them back together on the other side. This was huge as some of the said furniture pieces were from IKEA and took forever to put together the first time.
  • The job gets done fast: If my husband and I were to have attempted this move on our own, it would have taken forever, and we would probably have broken many things. The hired movers are strong, experienced, and have the appropriate equipment to get the job done. The whole moving process took in between 2 and 3 hours in total.
